How To Create an Online Course: The Ultimate Guide

How to create an online course
How to create an online course

As I’m sure you know, online learning has become an integral part of almost every online business. With the COVID-19 pandemic looming over us, people are tending to look for quality content online that can teach them new skills – all from the safety of their home. With this in mind, a number of opportunities are opening up for people to create and sell skills courses online! Sound like something you’re interested in? Well, if you’re looking to create your own online course in order to generate some revenue or to simply share some useful skills with aspiring creatives – you’ve come to the right place! By sharing your knowledge in the form of an online course, you’ll be able to distinguish yourself as somewhat of an expert or authority figure within your field. In addition to this, you’ll be able to create a community of like-minded individuals and expand the reach of your business – all from the comfort of your home!

With the right guidance and a little extra knowledge on the ins and outs of course creation, you’ll be able to reach your goals in no time! In this article we’re going to be giving you the inside scoop into everything we know about online course creation – why you should create one, a step by step process of how it’s done, and a number of other useful tips and tricks.

We seemed to notice that a bunch of the blogs and sites online that cover ‘how to create an online course’ don’t necessarily include all the relevant information about how it’s done or what to look out for in the process. Luckily, we’ve got you covered. In this ultimate guide we’ve put together all the tips, tricks and steps you’ll need to follow to create your own online course – in the most efficient way possible!

Before we jump into the steps of how to create an online course, we’re going to cover a few questions you might have…

Why should I create an online course?

Before jumping into creating an online course, it’s important to know the reasons why it’s worth it. What is all the time, energy and hard work going to grant you? Is it worth it?

Well, put simply, yes.

As we mentioned earlier, COVID-19 has launched a complete 180 degree change in education, learning and communication. Learning a new skill is no longer defined by having access to classrooms, lecture halls and uncomfortable desk chairs! Technology and a shift in perspective has allowed for us to learn online.

In fact, according to research conducted by Global Industry Analysts, the online education sphere is expected to grow from a $107 billion industry to $370 billion in the next 4-5 years. With that being said, now is definitely the time to be creating an online learning course in your field of choice.

How long does it take to create an online course?

Well, this question is a little more difficult to answer, as it all depends on how much material you want to include, whether you need to conduct prior research and a number of other factors. However, as a general estimate we’d say it takes around a week to create your online course. If you have your PDFs, informational videos, quizzes, certificates and the general layout of your course all ready to go – it shouldn’t take long at all. With all of your content ready to go, you shouldn’t need more than 1 week to complete your course, if you work for around 2-3 hours per day.

How do I make sure my course is successful and profitable?

To ensure that your course is not only successful but profitable too, you’ll need to know your audience. And I mean really know them. Once you have identified your target audience, you’ll need to learn what their interests are and what skills they’re looking to acquire. If you are able to teach people skills or solve problems that they might be facing, they will be much more likely to purchase your course. As a basic rule of thumb, successful courses always solve problems, teach something new and innovative and help others to achieve their goals. This is particularly true for younger individuals who are not yet experts in your field.

1. Identify the opportunity

Before creating your course, it’s important to identify which opportunity you’re going to take. Discovering and defining an existing problem that you can solve with your course is the first step you’ll need to take.

To ensure that your course is a success, you’ll need to understand what your audience is looking to learn or gain from your course. Are they looking to design a website? Develop their SEO skills? No matter what it might be, your job is to guide them through the learning process effectively and efficiently. Now, this might seem like a simple task but it does in fact involve a great deal of extensive research. It’s important to make sure that you are creating something that others need.

How do you do this? Well, here are some effective ways to identify your opportunity:

  • Send out a survey to your prospective buyers/students
  • Post a poll on your social media platforms
  • Do some old fashioned research on Quora, Medium and even Reddit.

2. Confirm & validate your idea

Once you’ve decided on your course topic and the opportunity you’re going to be taking – it’s time to test if it’s really going to work. A great idea doesn’t necessarily mean it is going to be a success and generate any revenue. We also think it’s important not to waste your time creating something that has little to no impact.

It’s important to carry out this step before you dive into creating course content. Introducing… the smoke test. Carrying out a smoke test will allow you to see whether buyers are willing to spend money on your course, rather than just show a general interest.

A smoke test is a technique in which you start selling your course online before it is even completed. To do this, set up your landing page and drive traffic towards it. You’ll then be able to see how many people clicked on the course as well as who pressed the ‘buy now’ button. By looking at these analytics you should be able to roughly tell whether people are interested in your course.

3. Outline your course content

Given that your smoke test was a success, it’s now time to put together the content for your course. If you’ve already curated all your course content you can skip this step.

If not, it might be a good idea to look back on any existing material you have on the topic. Assuming you’re an expert in the field, it shouldn’t be too difficult to gather your course content. You can use old podcasts, videos, assignments or blog posts you may have created in the past, and repurpose the content so that it can be used in your course. This is a great time saving tip!

Although videos are usually the most efficient way of putting together an online course, you can also supplement this content with audio clips, PowerPoint presentations or written content. It is also important to create course assignments or tests for each chapter or section of your course. These can be in the form of online quizzes, games or traditional, downloadable PDF documents.

If you are going to use videos, make sure to read our article about creating effective online course videos, which has some great tips for you!

4. Launch your course online

Now that you’ve identified a profitable course topic/idea, gathered your content and conducted a (successful) smoke test, it’s time to launch your course! This step does however involve a number of sub-steps to ensure your course is as successful as possible. It’s time to set the stage…

Although you may have an incredible course that is carefully curated, it won’t do you much good if prospective students/buyers can’t find it. For your course to be successful, you’ll need to supplement it with an effective marketing strategy. Included in the week leading up to your course launch, its important to gather promotional content.

Examples of promotional content include:

  • Blog posts
  • Email announcements
  • Social media posts
  • Affiliates
  • Digital advertisements (via Instagram, Instagram Stories, YouTube or Facebook)
  • Influencer marketing

It’s important to note that the initial launch period of any product is an increasingly crucial time, and is often highly correlated with the success of the product itself. With this being said, it’s important to get the logistics of this phase right in order to ensure that your  course is a long term success!

Best Products & Categories At MasterBundles Marketplace

The Most Useful Products At MasterBundles Marketplace:  Explore The Range

Design is what you need in literally every area of life — for instance, branding a company, creating advertising, designing social media or clothing, and so on. And sometimes hiring a specialist to create a product appearance from scratch is difficult, time-consuming and costly. So, what is better to do?

In this case, it’s quite rational to pay attention to special platforms where customers can find a variety of designs — both complete ones and various details. One of these portals is MasterBundles, whose products we will discuss in the review.

№1: Graphic Design Elements

As first in the list of categories, customers can explore the elements of graphic design — in this tab you can find more than ten thousand different products or bundles. By going to this page, the user sees the usual grid with products (1), premium options marked as “Editor’s Choice” (2), as well as filters (3) and subcategories (4). A similar structure is maintained in each category.

Subcategories include:

  1. Backgrounds with 370+ options.
  2. Badges with 90+ options.
  3. Graphic Design Patterns with 1900+ options.
  4. T-Shirts with 900+ options.
  5. Textures with 350+ options.
  6. Characters with 130+ options.
  7. Icons with 340+ options.
  8. Illustrations with 5300+ options.
  9. Infographics with 60+ options.
  10. Logos with 2200+ options.

All of these elements, from infographics to background images, can be used by a variety of users, including designers who want to refine their products with side details.

№2: Fonts

The font is a very important component of an attractive design, it is used wherever text is needed. But it happens that the usual public options do not fit your product or you want to find something original. Then it’s worth exploring the range of fonts in MasterBundles — customers will find great sets in one of five subcategories.

You can also find themed fonts on the eve of the holidays. For example, there are currently over twenty options for Halloween designs on the site.

№3: Add-ons

Sometimes the basic functionality of some editors is simply not enough to implement all the designer’s ideas — then it’s time to apply useful plugins! On the marketplace, users can download add-ons for popular applications, namely, Lightroom, Photoshop and Illustrator.

№4: Templates

Also, users often need high-quality design templates — the presence of such a set makes it possible to significantly reduce the time to create beautiful and aesthetic decor for a presentation, resume, UI kits, mockups, magazine, social media & landing pages, and so on. At the moment, site customers can use 5000+ templates from different subcategories, but their number continues to grow.

№5: Stock Content

High-quality vector images for 30+ topics, footage, audio and photo content are available in this category of products. In addition to the variety and convenient filters, visitors to this tab will also be pleased with reasonable prices — here you can find good sets even at a price of $ 1-4.

Why Become a Buyer on MasterBundles?

At the moment, users can find dozens of different marketplaces, although not every one of them can talk about total customer focus, like MasterBundles. Here are some critical reasons to become their client:

  1. A decent assortment with 20,000+ bundles, which allows you to find a product for every taste — both narrowly themed and for general purposes.
  2. Product customization. Most of the options are easy to customize to suit your project needs. For example, if you want to add brand colors or change the font to a corporate one.
  3. An excellent site interface with easy navigation and clear management of the buyer’s account, it will take just a few minutes to get used to it.
  4. Mandatory moderation. The marketplace is concerned about the fact that buyers choose the ideal option only among high-quality products, so all the work of designers is subject to mandatory moderation.
  5. The presence of freebies. You should not think that if the design is free, then its quality is certainly low. Most designers offer freebies to clients to introduce them to their products and to help them understand whether their other work will be relevant for specific projects or not.
  6. Informative blog. This section is updated regularly and offers a wealth of useful information for all users including shoppers – aesthetic design listicles, trending stuff, how-to guides, inspirational interviews and more.

In addition, the company’s mission is to offer not only a wide assortment of high-quality designs but also make them as affordable as possible. While other platforms take big commissions from designers and make a large markup on their products, which customers don’t usually like, MasterBundles focuses on bundles (discount packages of themed products).

Thus, if a dozen great fonts individually cost about $300, then the bundle will sell for only $18-$20! The platform earns its profits through mass sales, the designer is satisfied with the regular income, and the client is delighted with the ratio of quality & affordability!

Who Can Use MasterBundles` Products?

The presented products may be of interest to many user groups. Firstly, designers who lack some details, but don’t want to draw them on their own. Secondly, they are ideal for marketers and SMM professionals who want to create a design in time but don’t want to hire artists to create decor from scratch. And, of course, the marketplace will be of interest to small business owners for testing various hypotheses or crafters who constantly need high-quality SVG objects.

So let’s recap! The MasterBundles website has a lot of cool graphic elements including texture images, icons and more, as well as templates, fonts, add-ons and stock content — all of which will be of interest to anyone who constantly works with visuals. So be sure to visit the site to see for yourself.

6 Expected Design Trends for 2023

Expected Graphic Design Trends for 2022

In previous years, we have seen design trends evolving and shifting at a slow, gradual rate. However, times have changed. The numerous social movements as well as the global pandemic have brought about significant cultural and social change in a number of spheres. Design is no exception.

The importance of creativity and design cannot be stressed enough. Design is intrinsically involved in our identity, our self-expression and is in a state of consistent growth. If you are a design centred business owner, an artist, a freelance designer or creative of any kind – it’s important to explore the latest design trends and movements and somehow implement them into your work. Ensuring you stay current and relevant is highly dependent on your ability to flow with the trends.

If you’re looking to get a sneak peek inside what trends, concepts and changes we should expect to see in 2023, you’ve come to the right place. We’re going to be breaking down 6 of our favourite changes within design we’ll be seeing in the upcoming year. Let’s dive in the Design Trends for 2023!

Often bringing that sought after ‘shock value’, surrealism that is a trend that first began to show itself back in 2020. Since then it has been gradually gaining more traction which we predict will continue to make an appearance in this upcoming year 2023. Modern surrealism can be described as a mix of realism and non-verifiable surrealism.

Rain Spell by Temporary-Peace
Rain Spell by Temporary-Peace

It seems as though consumers are drawn towards this depiction of an altered reality that is difficult to place our finger on. That mystery and intrigue is perhaps what has kept this trend alive for so long!

We have already seen companies integrating surrealism into their branding, book covers, advertising posters and even product labels. With this being said, it seems as though this trend has no interest in slowing down any time soon with marketers preferring surrealism as it works as a tool to surprise the consumer.

Colourful minimalism

Minimalism is a trend that has been no stranger to the design sphere over the past few years. By traditional definition, minimalism is defined as a combination of black text and a white background (or various shades of the 2). This did not however appeal to modern day designers who felt the lack of colour and brightness in their work. It was perhaps this realization that spurred the colourful minimalism trend within design.

In past years, modern designers have reshaped the concept of minimalism overcoming the obstacle of limited colour palettes. Instead, they have re-interpreted the trend in a way that includes a range of colour palettes that are both bright, fun and maintain the minimalist look. Colour and creativity have become strong points for famous brands who have opted for this neo-minimalist approach.

Nostalgic themes

It’s not uncommon for people to experience a longing for an idealized past. This same longing exists within the design sphere in the form of a trend! It’s important to note that styles related to the 90s aesthetic are particularly influential in this case, as opposed to the earlier eras prevalent in the trends of the past.

A dominant trend that has made its mark in the design world, year in and year out – is the retro style. However, we may be witnessing the end of an era. The then popular retro theme within graphic design, media and marketing was characterised by Gatsby-esque fonts and embellishments, 70’s inspired colour palettes and symbols and the unforgettable typewriter!

Now, nostalgia seems to be taking the place of the retro trend, bringing forth themes from the 1990s and early 2000s. The trend now referred to as ‘Y2K’, has already made its mark in the fashion world, and will undoubtedly make its way into graphic design by the time the new year rolls in.

Geometric shapes and bright colours

Towards the end of 2020, we saw Google take a big leap that surprised many of us. It’s icon was redesigned to depict geometric circles, blocks and shapes. Together with this, bright primary colours also seemed to be particularly significant in the design revamp. These changes can also be seen in the branding of Behance as well as Bauhaus, who have stated that art is a method for social change.

In the upcoming year we will likely see more graphic designers taking inspiration from these changes within the school of design – geometric shapes, clean composition and the use of bright (primary) colours.

Another reason for this shift within the field could be due to the need for safety and approachability. What better way to convey such a feeling than with blocks, shapes and bright colours? As we mentioned earlier, a sense of trust is something that consumers are actively searching for in brands and businesses. This demand for transparency is conveyed perfectly with this shift towards more simplistic design choices. In 2021 we saw the beginning of this trend start to take form, with a great example being the revamp of the Swarovski packaging.

Diversity and inclusion

When referring to inclusivity and diversity in this article, we find it important to note that this isn’t a trend but rather an advancement in society towards a better future. Instead, this can be understood as a space within the design sphere that will be occupied in 2023 (and hopefully many more years to come) by those who have not had a space or a voice prior to the social movements as of late.

In terms of design we should expect characters, models and depictions of previously marginalized groups to appear in more design projects, branding and art. This is perhaps the best change within the design sphere this industry has ever had, spurred by the unfortunate circumstances that began the Black Lives Matter movement.

Designers are beginning to question their choices in representation and making a change towards inclusivity for all cultures, ethnicities, races and beliefs.

Sans Serif fonts

Put simply, serif fonts can be defined as having horizontal lines at the top and bottom of each letter. If it’s hard to imagine this, consider the popular font Times New Roman – one of the most popular serif fonts. Towards the beginning of the 2000s, designers slowly began to abandon the serif trend and move towards a more clean, minimalist feel. However, now in 2022 and the upcoming year 2023, it seems as though the design world is transitioning back into their love for serif fonts.

Difference between serif and sans-serif
Difference between serif and sans-serif

The transition back to serif fonts from the previously loved san serifs can be explained in terms of the sense of security and tradition they seem to evoke for viewers. When brands or businesses portray a sense of trust, they are more likely to acquire a client base that is consistent. In the upcoming year, brand trust is likely to be at the forefront of buyers expectations. Research showed that over 70% of people agree that trust is an increasingly important factor today in comparison to the past.

This can be attributed to the global pandemic and the great social movements that have happened over the past few years within our society. In essence, serif fonts have a longer history in the mind of society and are more likely to convey a sense of trust and safety.

5 Healthy Work-From-Home Habits for Productivity and Stress Management

5 healthy work from home habits

COVID-19 has taken the world by storm, transforming our usual daily routines into something far from familiar. Although considered a blessing for some, the work from home order has been an increasingly difficult task for those who thrive in fast paced, ever changing daily work schedules. Rolling out of bed, walking to your desk and turning on your laptop has become the new ‘morning routine’ which has left some feeling depleted, run down and over worked. Combining your work life and home life is an overwhelming task, as the lines between work and play become almost non-existent.

Although this is a trying time, it is nonetheless important to acknowledge the privilege of being able to work from home. Working from home is a luxury that many people around the world do not have, and have been left jobless following the pandemic crisis. That’s not to say that is it particularly easy to live and work at home for months on end. Taking care of yourself and your mental health is incredibly important during this time, so we’ve put together a list of 5 healthy habits you should develop when working from home.

Let’s dive in and get you started with these 5 healthy Work-From-Home habits!

Take a break from screens

Now with meetings taking place over Zoom, a surplus of emails coming in and increased activity on social media, screen time can begin to take up the majority of your day. By looking at screens for prolonged periods of time, whether it’s your phone, laptop, tv or tablet, you are likely to develop eye strain, sleeping problems and burn out.

Take time out of your day to be away from the screen – take a walk, read a book, paint, play with your pets, whatever it may be. Make sure that these breaks are consistent in order for them to become a habit and part of your daily routine. If social media is the problem, remove some apps. If its emails, log in at designated times only.

By giving yourself this time off, you’ll be able to keep a steadier energy level and manage stress.

Set up a designated work space

Creating that distinction between your home and office is what most struggle with. To combat this, it’s important to create a designated work space separated from your usual home life. Doing so creates a better work-life balance by separating where you carry out your tasks from where you relax. It doesn’t necessarily need to be an entire office, but can be a spot at the kitchen table or desk in your room.

Whatever it may be, make sure you only work in that spot. When work comes to an end at the end of the day, you’ll have a place you can stand up and walk away from. This allows you to transition into off-hours and truly enjoy the leisure time spent in your home, away from work. Decorate your space to your liking – add plants, candles, flowers and art.

By creating a positive space you’re likely to feel inspired and at ease while working.

Prioritize mornings

It’s no secret that when you have nowhere to be, your mornings are likely to be slow. Working at home requires you take your mornings seriously – get up, get dressed and make your way to your work station. This is perhaps one of the most difficult habits to get into but, once mastered it has the ability to change your work from home experience. Having a sense of seriousness about your work is likely to pay off.

This is not to say that you need to wake up at 4am, exercise, read, meditate and eat all before 6 – it’s about what works for you in regards to your productivity. By creating a structured morning routine it will be easier to let your brain know that it’s now time for work.

Whatever morning routine you find works best for you, make sure to maximize that time, as our minds are freshest at the start of the day.

Be active and social

During this time, it can be incredibly easy to get caught up in your work from home routine, and abandon other facets of your life.

Although being active and socializing is important at any moment in life, it is more so now than ever before. Consider going on a walk, interacting with other people from a distance, feel the sunshine on your skin and boost your serotonin! Getting out and about is a great way to take a break from home and work, and is likely to uplift your mood. Ideally, try get out for some exercise too, as it’s no secret that exercising releases chemicals that improve your mood. You can also take on group exercise activities with friends or family in your city.

Why not exercise?

Making sure to stay social during this time is a detrimental aspect to overall health and productivity. Try and plan regular social events or activities with others as a means to disconnect from work. Although this pandemic may at times feel lonely, we are all experiencing it together – so why not create a small support circle of friends to blow off some steam?

Set up ‘Do Not Disturb’ rules

If you’re working from home, its likely you may not be alone but surrounded by family, roommates, your spouse etc. It’s completely understandable that others engage with you when you are around them, either in an office upstairs or at the kitchen table. While this may have been the case when home was separated from work, it no longer is.

As I’m sure you know, work hours are an incredibly important time that requires a great amount of focus and intent. When your brother, child or roommate disturbs you, this concentration is broken and overall productivity is lost. You’ll then need to refocus your attention which is likely to be broken again at a later time. To avoid this you’ll need to establish firm ‘do not disturb’ rules when you are within your working hours.

It is increasingly important to achieve optimal creativity and productivity during the day, so make sure to set boundaries accordingly. Explain in a patient matter that you cannot be disturbed during a certain time period or perhaps if your door is closed. Set the boundaries that work best for your work schedule.

Grab a pen.. or digital pencil and start challenging yourself with the Inktober challenge.

Founded by artist Jake Parker, the month long Inktober challenge urges artists to create ink drawings to be posted online. The intent behind the challenge is for artists to work on their skills, potentially step out of their comfort zones and most importantly, have some fun throughout the entire month of  October!

It’s important to note that Inktober is not a content but a challenge. There is however a Inktober Awards contest in which artists of any and all skill levels can win high-valued prizes.

Share your work

Share your art throughout the month via any of your social media platforms and tag #inktober or #inktober2022. By sharing your art this way, you’ll be able to see the work of others also participating in Inktober. No social media? No problem. You can still participate in the challenge by simply sharing your art with friends, family, or by displaying it around your house.

Ink only?

A number of art forms and creative processes are welcomed; whether your go-to medium is ink, digital art or calligraphy – this challenge is for you.

Up here you see some super cute illustrations of the talented CATRU. Make sure to follow her on Instagram!

Where do I start?

To help you out, Inktober has put out an official 2022 Prompt list, which they have been doing since 2016.

The prompt list is intended to provide some guidance and inspiration for artists to follow during the month of October, but feel free to create your own or simply use it as a starting point.

See this year’s list below.

How to make time everyday

A key tip would be to manage your time well and plan ahead. There will come a day (or a few days) in the month of October where you feel incredibly demotivated and uninspired – but that’s okay! Inktober is about having fun and working on your skills, so make sure to find a plan, timetable or process that works best for you. Flow with what you enjoy and feel driven to do. Remember to be patient with yourself and by the end of the month you’ll have a collection of work you’ll be incredibly proud of.

Some lovely illustrations created by the talented artist maddie_artdesign above. Remember, there are no rules for Inktober, just try to illustrate the topic on the prompt list right.

Set up a workspace

By having a workspace already set up for your October creative adventure you’ll avoid wasting time and energy setting up a space every day. It has also been proven that having a designated workspace greatly supports productivity and will undoubtedly help while you try to adjust to this new daily routine. As a tip, try setting up both your space as well as a resource bank of tools, inspiration and creative ideas that you can easily access throughout the month.

Where it all began

Creator of Inktober, Jake Parker noted that he “created the challenge back in 2009 as a way to improve [his] own inking skills. Since then the challenge has grown to be a massive event with people participating all over the world.”

“The last few years I’ve received countless emails, messages, and in-person comments from people telling me that Inktober got them drawing again. They tell me that for years they hadn’t really drawn, or drawn anything for themselves, but when they committed to Inktober it got them out of the slump, back into drawing, and more importantly, back to being creative again.” – Jake Parker
