Today, Escape Motions finally announced the release date of Rebelle 6, which is tomorrow on December 15, 2022. Rebelle is a highly acclaimed painting application featuring vivid simulations of oil, acrylic, watercolor, and other wet and dry mediums. What new features does Rebelle 6 offer?

In addition to the already announced Liquify and Warp tools, Fractal resize, ‘Favorite’ brushes, upgraded Brush Creator, new Filters, and other features even more great features are coming to the new version.

New Wet and Dry Media

Rebelle 6 is introducing an extensive selection of 240+ brushes. A variety of new brush types have been incorporated, such as grunge, scumbling, textured brush presets, enhanced pencils, and a selection of dry and oil pastels.

Favorite Brushes

A highly requested feature for arranging the most used and users favorite brushes into one place will be added to Rebelle 6. Rebelle 6 offers a convenient way to store commonly used brushes in its interface, enabling easy access to brushes from any painting media (Oils & Acrylics, Watercolors, etc.). This makes the most frequently used brushes more readily available.

Upgraded and Redesigned Brush Creator

The Brush Creator has been enhanced with numerous functionalities and controls in recent years, resulting in an extensive but disorganized panel. For the new version, Escape Motions have reorganized the Brush Creator to provide a clearer and more efficient user experience. In Rebelle 6 they have assigned the controls and options of the panel in Rebelle 6 into three sections: Stroke, Shape & Grain, and Paint.

New Brush Types

The introduction of new options in Rebelle 6 has enabled Escape Motions to create an array of unique brushes, such as grunge, textured, and granulation.

Layer Masking Tools

The Layers panel now offers additional masking options. You can create a Layer Mask or apply a Clipping Mask to a layer by right-clicking on the layer in the Layers panel. Masks provide powerful tools for controlling a layer’s visibility and are comparable to features available in other painting programs.

Clipping Masks

The graphical representation of an ‘Influenced Layer’ has been eliminated from the Layers panel. The ‘Masking Fluid Layer’ and ‘Tracing Layer’ now impart their influence over all layers, or when within a group, all layers within that group. The utilization of this feature facilitates a more streamlined user experience with masks and masking fluids, making the process more efficient.

Grid and Guides

Rebelle 6 offers a variety of new features allowing users to fully customize and display grids and guides, a popular method in traditional painting and drawing. This feature, found in the View menu, will enable users to both view grids and guides and snap to them, delivering great assistance to artists.

Escape Motions have added the ability to display additional guides at the edges, center, thirds, and quarters of the canvas. Paint strokes cannot be constrained to the margin, but when making selections, you will notice short lines appearing at the boundary of the canvas.

Reference Image Guides

Escape Motions have incorporated guides into the Reference Image panel to assist with proportioning of drawing objects. These guides will be present both in the reference image and on the canvas, providing a more comprehensive approach to achieve the desired results.
