June Art Challenges

As summer approaches and creativity blooms, it can be challenging to be cooped up in your house with the same daily routine. With this being said, tapping into your creative side can be a great outlet for stress and anxiety during these trying times. If you missed one of the May Art Challenges, why not take part in an art challenge this upcoming June?

Art challenges work to inspire creativity and allow creatives to create art in a fun and stress-free way. Consider taking some time this June to create a unique piece of art every day, form a positive and productive habit, and develop your art skills!

We’ve put together a list of some art challenges taking place this June that you can take part in.

The KaiJune Art Challenge

This unique art challenge is based on the Kaiju genre, a Japanese film genre that features giant monsters. The words ‘Kaiju’, written as 怪獣, and ‘June’ have been combined to make KaiJune. This is a 30 day art challenge that runs throughout the month of June.

In this challenge, you’ll be drawing a creature, either new or a classic, every day during this month. Because there is no official prompt list for this challenge, you can either create your own or use one that a fellow creative has made for others to use! Make sure to check out @flancortes for the latest and official prompt lists.

If you decide to take part in this exciting challenge and happen to post your work online, make sure to use the hashtags #Kaijune #Kaijunechallenge #Kaiju #Kaijune2021.

Quick Kick June

The ‘Quick Kick June’ art challenge 2022 is a challenge run by Kick in the Creatives, specifically for those of you who don’t particularly have a lot of time on your hands. In this challenge, you’ll be expected to complete a cartoon sketch every day during the month of June in under 15 minutes. There no rules for this challenge, so just have fun!

Some guidelines provided by the creators noted that you could create a new character every day or you could build up a comic strip! You can also use any medium or material that you’d like, so get creative! If you decide to take part in the Quick Kick June art challenge and happen to post your work online, make sure to use the hashtags #kickinthecreatives and #QuickKickJune. You can also post your drawings on the official Kick in the Creatives Facebook page.

Quick Kick June also involves a little optional twist – if you’d like you can create a video (maximum of 3 minutes) after the month of June documenting your experience with the challenge. Make sure to include some of your favourite creations during Quick Kick June and send it through to Kick in the Creatives to share on their site.

Tinkersketch June Art Challenge by Tinkerlab

Tinkerlab’s June art challenge prompt list

This summer themed art challenge run by Tinkersketch is all about making memories and documenting experiences in your sketchbook. Although the provided prompts are relatively straightforward, they can be interpreted in any way you’d like. If June is around winter time for your part of the world, this challenge is still for you!

The Tinkersketch June Art Challenge is a daily sketchbook practice that invites creatives to experiment with different ideas and mediums in a stress free, fun way! No matter your skill level, this challenge is for anyone who is looking for a creative boost. You can even take part in this challenge with your parents or children. Each day, you’ll need to carve out a minimum of 5-10 minutes to get creative.

Some tips from the challenge creators:

  • Keep your sketchbook with you at all times so whenever you have a free moment you can complete your piece for the day
  • Consider carving out a specific time in your day for creativity
  • Wake up a little earlier, if possible, to sit with your sketchbook and morning coffee while you get creative!

Essentially, the goal of this challenge is to improve your art skills, inspire creativity, explore new avenues of art and have fun either by yourself or with others! If you decide to share your work online during the month of June, make sure to use the hashtag #tinkersketch and tag @Tinkerlab.

Copyist June

Copyist June Art Challenge
Copyist June Art Challenge from Kick in the Creatives

Also run by Kick in the Creatives, this challenge challenges you to replicate or copy an existing drawing, paining or piece of art every day during the month of June. These can be taken from anywhere – a famous artist, an art book etc.

Copyist June is intended for developing your art skills by modelling other masters of the craft. By carrying out their artistic process, you’ll begin to learn how the end result was achieved.

Some rules for this challenge include:

  • Write the word ‘copy’ beneath your drawing
  • Make sure to credit the original artist and the source you copied the piece from
  • If you post your work online, include the original alongside your rendition

If you’re particularly interested in a certain style, try copying works from a book that covers that style in order to develop those skills by the end of the month. If you’re struggling with time, try copying smaller, less detailed sketches. Alternatively, you can work on one large sketch, drawing or painting over the whole month instead of smaller daily pieces.

Consider switching things up and creating your pieces with interesting mediums and materials. If you decide to take part in the Copyist June art challenge and happen to post your work online, make sure to use the hashtags #kickinthecreatives and # CopyistJune. You can also post your drawings on the official Kick in the Creatives Facebook page.

Copyist June also involves a little optional twist – if you’d like you can create a video (maximum of 3 minutes) after the month of June documenting your experience with the challenge. You can also send in some of your favourite pieces created during the month of June for Kick in the Creatives to share on their site.

Next up we’ve got another Kick in the Creatives challenge, but this one is centered around textiles! Kick Crafty is an art challenge running throughout the month of June in which participants are challenged to create something with textiles every day, or create a larger project to work on all month long. The only rule for this challenge is to have fun! You can use any materials, medium or supplies to create your pieces, such as wool, felt or even material scraps.

Some ideas from the challenge creators to make your work a little more interesting:

  • Try experimenting with different textures and materials
  • Use dyes or paints in combination with your textiles

If you decide to take part in the Kick Crafty Textiles Challenge and post your work online, make sure to use the hashtags #kickinthecreatives and # KickCrafty. You can also post your drawings on the official Kick in the Creatives Facebook page.
