This space is dedicated to featuring some of our favourite up and coming creatives. Every week we’ll be scouting some hidden talent and featuring them in an article. We aim to showcase their work and share a little about them as an artist.
If you’d like to take part in something similar, make sure to reach out to us via our Featured Artist page.
Featured Artist, María José Cabral
María was born in the small town of Coronel Moldes in the south of Córdoba, Argentina in 1981. Between the years of 2001 and 2006, she graduated with her first degree in Visual Arts at the Cordoba National University. In addition to this, María has completed a number of illustration courses and art clinics.
Maria developed an innate passion for drawing at a young age – exploring all of its possibilities, formats and materials. Whether it be graphite, ink, coloured pencils, threading or digital media.
Drawing is a daily practice for me, a way of saying things I consider to be important. Things that should be named, rescued, treasured. Things like gestures, simple actions, intimate landscapes, poetry and nature.
Maria has been featured in a number of individual exhibitions – the 2003 Drawing exposition at El Cíclope Foundation Córdoba and 2007 Tesis exposition and the Centro Cultural España-Córdoba for example.
This year I have been working on book illustrations for writer Mariana Robles and on poetry illustrations for Roberta Iannamico.
